The Center for Humanitarian Studies – Tigray (CHS‑T) is a strategic initiative jointly established by 4ybin, Egoaizia, and Mekelle University. Launched in late 2024, the Center was established in response to the urgent need for ethical, effective, and professional humanitarian action for crisis‑affected communities in the Tigray region, the Horn of Africa, and beyond. CHS‑T is financially supported by eLankidetza (Basque Agency for Development and Solidarity, Spain), and receives technical support from Deusto University, Spain. The Center is dedicated to delivering high-quality training, practice-oriented education, applicable research and impactful advocacy.

Guided by a commitment to resilient societies and evidence‑based policy, our vision is to empower communities, shape informed decision‑making, and inspire transformative humanitarian action across the Tigray region, the Horn of Africa, and beyond.

Mission

The Center for Humanitarian Studies – Tigray (CHS‑T) is dedicated to enhancing the quality and impact of humanitarian action across all phases and components in Tigray and Ethiopia.

Our mission is to educate and empower humanitarian professionals who embody strong ethical values, provide visionary managerial leadership, and ensure efficient, comprehensive, and accountable humanitarian responses.

Key Objectives

Training and Education:

Deliver high-quality, locally relevant humanitarian education and build the capacity of local NGOs and CSOs.

Research:

Conduct and apply impactful humanitarian research to inform practice and policy.

Advocacy:

Promote locally led initiatives and foster inclusive partnerships, serving as a regional hub for collaboration, capacity-building, and knowledge sharing.
