10-Day In-Person Certificate Training Program

Mekelle University’s Center for Humanitarian Studies–Ethiopia (CHS-E) is offering its First Round Certificate Training Program on Humanitarian Needs Assessment and Analysis (HNAA).

This in-person training is designed to strengthen participants’ practical knowledge and skills to plan, conduct, analyse and communicate humanitarian needs assessments, combining academic expertise with practical humanitarian experience.

This training is intended for humanitarian and development professionals, staff of NGOs and civil society organisations, public institutions, researchers, and other professionals involved or interested in humanitarian needs assessment, programme planning and response.

Learn from experienced professionals

The training will be delivered by academics and humanitarian practitioners with experience in humanitarian needs assessment, research and humanitarian response:

Dr. Diego Guerrero Oris: Independent Humanitarian Advisor, Spain.

Mezgebo Gebregeorgis (PhD): Statistician and Population Studies specialist; over 10 years of experience in research, data analysis, survey design, impact evaluation, and field coordination.

Dr. Letekirstos: Assistant Professor with an MSc in Biostatistics and Health Informatics; 19 years of experience in public health research, health information systems, data management, humanitarian data, and field-based research coordination.

Dr. Fantay Gebru: Biostatistics and MEAL specialist; over 20 years of experience in data quality assurance, health research, monitoring and evaluation, and advanced data analytics.

The training combines practical field experience, academic knowledge and internationally recognised humanitarian standards.


Entry requirements

Applicants should have:

  • A relevant diploma, undergraduate degree or higher qualification from a recognised institution.
  • Working knowledge of English, Tigrigna or Amharic.
  • A strong interest in humanitarian action.
  • Availability to attend the full training programme.

Assessment and certification

Assessment will be conducted throughout the training and will cover the main modules of the course.

Participants who successfully complete the training and meet the required assessment and attendance criteria will receive a Certificate in Humanitarian Needs Assessment and Analysis issued by Mekelle University.

Refund Policy: Payments effected by the participant shall only be refunded upon his/her request two days before the training begins

Accepted students will receive their acceptance notification on a rolling basis, maximum by 27/08/2026, together with the payment instructions. Payments must be completed as soon as possible after the notification of acceptance.
